The grid needs power that never stops. What if the answer is 100 miles up?
The clean energy transition has an unsolved problem: solar and wind are cheap, but the sun sets and the wind stops. The grid needs firm, always-on clean power — and we're running out of time to find it.
Space-Based Solar Power (SBSP) harvests solar energy in orbit, where the sun shines constantly, and transmits it to Earth as clean, firm electricity.
As part of SF Climate Week 2026, YPE Bay Area and Space Frontier Foundation are convening energy leaders, investors, and innovators for an honest conversation about whether SBSP can deliver — and what it would take to get there.
🎙 Speakers
John Bucknell, Founder & CEO at Virtus Solis Technologies, is building the world's first commercial SBSP system using modular solar-harvesting satellites that beam energy to Earth via microwave.
Marc Berte, Founder & CEO at Overview Energy, is building satellites in geosynchronous orbit that beam clean energy to Earth using near-infrared lasers.
Chris Davlantes, Founder & CEO at Reach Power, is building the wireless power transmission layer that makes SBSP practical using AI-driven, adaptive power-beaming networks to deliver.
